About
Get matched with a business-law attorney
Tell us what you need help with, and we’ll try to match you, free, with licensed business-law attorneys in your state. You share contact details and a short description of your legal need only, then you compare your options and choose what works for you.
How matching works
FoundryCounsel is a free matching service for US business owners. We are not a law firm, not an attorney, and do not give legal advice. We share general educational information only, and using this service does not create an attorney-client relationship.
Here is the basic process:
- Tell us your contact details and give a short description of your business-law need.
- We try to connect you with licensed attorneys in your state who handle that type of work.
- You speak with the attorneys, compare flat-fee ranges or other pricing details they offer, and decide whether to hire anyone.
There is no obligation to hire an attorney you hear from. You stay in control of the decision.
What to send, and what not to send
To get matched, send contact details and a short description of the need only. For example, you can say you need help forming a business, reviewing a contract, handling a lease, or fixing a compliance issue.
Please do not send sensitive or confidential information through the form, including:
- Social Security numbers
- ITINs, which are Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers used by the IRS
- EINs, which are Employer Identification Numbers issued by the IRS for a business
- Immigration status details
- Bank or financial account numbers
- Trade secrets, source code, formulas, customer lists, or other confidential business information
If an attorney speaks with you and asks for documents later, you can decide what to share directly with that attorney.
What kinds of business-law help we can match
Many owners come to us when they are starting a company, signing an agreement, bringing in a co-founder, renting space, or trying to stay compliant with state rules.
Common needs include:
- Business formation, such as an LLC, which is a limited liability company, or a corporation
- Questions about choosing between an LLC and a corporation
- Contracts and agreements, including an NDA, which is a non-disclosure agreement used to protect confidential information, and an MSA, which is a master services agreement that sets the general terms for ongoing work
- Founder and partnership agreements
- Commercial leases and real-estate matters
- Licensing and ongoing compliance filings
- A DBA, which means "doing business as" and is a business name registration used when a company operates under a name different from its legal name
If you are still figuring out what kind of help you need, you can review our services or browse the guides first.
You compare and choose
The goal is simple: help you find licensed attorneys in your state so you can compare your options. Attorneys may offer flat-fee ranges for common work, but any range is not a quote and can vary based on your facts, timing, and state requirements.
Be careful with anyone who promises a guaranteed result, approval, or registration. No one can promise that. For decisions about your business, check official sources like your state's Secretary of State, IRS.gov, and USPTO.gov when trademarks are involved, and speak with a licensed attorney.
If you want more background before you submit the form, see how it works or read how much does a business lawyer cost.
An honest note
This is general educational information, not legal advice, and does not create an attorney-client relationship. Laws and fees vary by state and change over time — confirm details with a licensed attorney and official sources before you act.
Common questions
Is matching really free for business owners?
Yes. Matching is free for owners. If you hire an attorney, any legal fees are between you and that attorney.
Do I need to send tax numbers, immigration details, or bank information?
No. Please send contact details and a short description of your legal need only. Do not submit SSNs, ITINs, EINs, immigration status details, bank account numbers, or confidential business secrets through the form.
Will I be matched with attorneys licensed in my state?
That is the goal. We try to connect you with licensed business-law attorneys in your state who handle the kind of matter you described.
Do I have to hire an attorney if I get matched?
No. You can compare your options and decide whether to move forward with any attorney. There is no obligation to hire someone.
Does FoundryCounsel give legal advice?
No. FoundryCounsel is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We offer general educational information and a free matching service, and using the site does not create an attorney-client relationship.
